STEPS TO SELF DISCOVERY 1

The greatest problem man has faced is not what to eat or wear, it is the problem of identity. Man as an entity lives in a world where he has no idea of whom he truly is and why he ended up here. Whether your origin of man takes its root from Adam or The South African ape, one thing that is certain is that man was created or has evolved to solve a problem. He was meticulously tailored to occupy a niche and fill a vacuum. There is a reason behind why man is quite different from every other animal on the surface of the earth.

For quite sometimes now, questions such as “why did man evolve to acquire such a sophisticated brain than other animals in the primate family, why did he develop speech as an act of communication” have been the subject of science debates. These questions and many more have led men to their laboratories seeking for answers.

Believe it or not, you are like a coconut drupe covered by a hard shell known as self and the real you is embedded in this shell. Unless you deal with the limitations of self, you will never come to see the real you.
To discover who you really are, here are some simple exercises you can carry out. To get the right answers from the exercise, it is important that you be truthful to yourself.

NOTE: These exercises may not reveal something palatable but you have to make up your mind to embrace the result no matter what happens at the end.

1.      What Can I do?
You are an embodiment of knowledge. A story was once told of a guy who could laugh in different ways. He always did this and made people happy. One day, he decided to organise a programme so that people can come and hear him laugh and that was the beginning of his success story.
As a human being, there must be something you are good at, something you can do perfectly well by default. You may not have learnt it in school but once you do it, it has a master’s touch. Why is important to know what you can do?  Your source of wealth and blessing is not far from it.

To establish this fact, you need to ask yourself and others some important questions about what you can possibly do well. I will suggest you get a pen and a paper to carry out this assignment. Try to be truthful in answering the questions.

a.       List all the things you can do; do not restrict the list to just palatable things, list everything you know or think you can do well.

b.      Now on a scale of 1-10, with 1 as the lowest and 10 as the highest score, try to grade all the things you can do. This may be a bit difficult for you, so I will suggest you ask your friends and family members who know you well enough to help you out with the grading. 5-10 people should be enough for this exercise.

c.       Collate the results from your findings and rate them depending on how the results turned out.

d.      The activity/activities with the highest possible score from 60% of the answers are likely to be what you are good at. Unless something went wrong somewhere, I believe five out of ten people cannot possibly lie to you unless there is a gang up somewhere.

Now that you have an idea on what you can do, I will suggest you start engaging in activities that will sharpen the talent and make you better.
